The Bhutan Computer Incident Response Team recommends individuals to remain vigilant for scams related to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The recent post on WhatsApp regarding “Free Internet Recharge from World Health Organization ” is FAKE.
BtCIRT encourages individuals to remain vigilant and take the following precautions.
• Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails and be wary of email attachments.
• Use trusted sources—such as legitimate, www.health.gov.bt —for up-to-date, fact-based information about COVID-19.
• Do not reveal personal or financial information in email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information.
As per recent Notification from Media Council of Bhutan, ” spreading fake news by any person during the time of emergency or otherwise through any means is an offense under the Information, Communications and Media Act 2018 and shall be prosecuted for the same.”
Therefore, request the general public to refrain from spreading any kind of fake news.
